Songwriting - What Should Come First? The Song or The Audience?

Kate here from Westwood Management!

I chat with a lot of indie artists who have written music and released it but struggle to find fans and audience who will connect, relate and listen to their music.

When you are simply a creator, putting work out into the world, you can focus on what you want to do, what you want to say or express through your art. It doesn’t matter if anyone sees or connects - it’s primarily about your process and your catharsis.

But if you want to have a business, you need to consider the needs, wants and preferences of your target audience about as much as you consider what you want to do. You need to bridge the gap and find a middle ground between the two.

This way you can still create honest, authentic work, but you can actually sell it because you know what your audience wants and how to reach them.

What do you think about this? Leave a comment and let's chat,

x Kate
